In terms of use: cable-stayed bridges are super-statically indeterminate structures, and their stability is better than that of suspension bridges with statically-determinate structures. There have been many incidents in the world where suspension bridges collapsed due to resonance under high winds.
Cable-stayed bridges can be made into several spans in a row, but it is technically difficult to make several suspension bridges. At present, the world's largest three-tower double-span suspension bridge is the Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge under construction in China, with a single span of 1080m.
Suspension bridges must have anchorages. If the river is very wide and the suspension bridge cannot reach this span, the anchorages must be placed in the river, which will seriously affect the water flow and threaten shipping.
From the perspective of structural stress: when the span is large, the load of the suspension bridge is more reasonable than that of the cable-stayed bridge, so it can achieve a larger span. , The height of the bridge tower must be increased, and the height of the bridge tower must not be infinitely increased; the cables of the cable-stayed bridge will exert a horizontal force on the bridge body, which increases the requirements for the strength of the bridge body, and the suspension bridge This is not the case.
Economically speaking: According to related research, it is more economical to use a cable-stayed bridge when the span is 300-1000 meters, and it is more economical to use a suspension bridge when the span exceeds 1000 meters.
